Twister: Compact ISR Power, Now Available for APAC Demonstrations

Quantum Systems has announced the availability of the latest revision of Twister, its compact vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), for demonstrations across Australia and the Asia-Pacific region. Designed for rapid-response operations, Twister delivers high-end intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) capability in a highly portable and resilient form factor.

Twister has been engineered to operate where larger uncrewed systems cannot, including urban environments, confined terrain, complex littoral spaces and rapidly changing tactical situations. Weighing under five kilograms and deployable in minutes, the system is optimised for short-range ISR, target confirmation, route clearance and force protection, providing operators with immediate situational awareness at the tactical edge.

At the heart of Twister’s capability is its advanced sensor payload and secure communications architecture. The system delivers stabilised electro-optical and infrared imagery, enabling day and night operations across a wide range of environmental conditions. Combined with encrypted datalinks and resilient navigation, Twister provides reliable ISR in contested environments, an increasingly critical requirement for modern defence and security forces.

“Twister was designed around the needs of the operator, not the platform,” said Michael Lillehagen, Managing Director of Quantum Systems Australia. “It’s about giving small teams rapid access to actionable intelligence, without adding complexity or burden. This latest revision of Twister reflects feedback from operational users and further enhances reliability, usability and mission relevance.”

The availability of Twister for demonstrations in Australia and the broader APAC region comes at a time of growing demand for sovereign, deployable ISR solutions. Defence forces across the region are seeking systems that can be rapidly deployed, easily sustained and integrated into existing command and control structures. Twister addresses this requirement by offering a modular, scalable capability that complements larger UAS platforms rather than competing with them.

Operational use cases for Twister span conventional and non-traditional missions. For land forces, the system supports patrol overwatch, urban reconnaissance, and threat detection beyond line of sight. For security and border agencies, Twister enables rapid area search, perimeter security and infrastructure protection. The system is also well suited to humanitarian assistance and disaster response, providing real-time situational awareness in environments where access is limited or unsafe.

Quantum Systems Australia plays a central role in local demonstrations, sustainment and customer engagement. With sovereign manufacturing, engineering and support capabilities based in Australia, Quantum Systems ensures that Twister can be tailored to regional requirements while aligning with Australian Defence’s Sovereign Defence Industrial Priorities.

“QSA’s role is to ensure these systems are not just delivered, but truly operationalised in our region,” Lillehagen said. “By bringing Twister to Australia and APAC for demonstrations, we’re enabling customers to see firsthand how this capability fits into their mission sets, their terrain and their operational realities.”

With its combination of portability, sensor performance and operational resilience, Twister represents a highly relevant ISR solution for today’s contested and fast-moving operational environments and is now ready for demonstration across the region.
