Your Journey to Special Forces Starts Now

Special Operations Command (SOCOMD) is actively recruiting the next generation of Special Forces Soldiers and Officers.

Cutting-edge warfare demands a sophisticated workforce. Therefore, SOCOMD is seeking high-calibre RAR members, as well as individuals from diverse backgrounds via the ADF Careers’ Special Forces Direct Recruiting Scheme.

There is no ‘one type’ of person who is selected to serve in SOCOMD; success requires a combination of physical strength, cognitive ability, character and mental resilience.

If you are physically fit, possess high levels of emotional intelligence and demonstrate exceptional trade proficiency then we encourage you to start the process now to join as a Special Forces Operator. You could serve in 1st Commando Regiment (Sydney or Melbourne), Special Air Service Regiment (Perth) or 2nd Commando Regiment (Sydney).

To start the process, submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) form and attend the multi-day Special Forces Assessment Program (SFAP) at Holsworthy Barracks. Sessions are scheduled frequently throughout the year to align with your training routine and availability.

During SFAP you will have the opportunity to learn and gain valuable exposure to SOCOMD. You’ll meet current-serving Special Forces Operators, ask them questions and gain insight into service within the Command. SOCOMD staff will share advice about preparing for the upcoming Selection Course and serving in the high-tempo role of a Special Forces Operator. The program also includes physical and cognitive testing to assess your suitability to progress in the recruitment process.

Depending on your performance, you may be invited to apply for a spot on the next Selection Course. If not, you will have a chance to come back and improve your performance. Be sure to submit your EOI this year to be considered for the Special Forces Selection Course (SFSC) in May 2027.

While preparation is crucial to success, SFAP is fundamentally a learning experience. RAR members are encouraged to give it a go, gain valuable exposure to SOCOMD, and test yourself against your peers and the SOCOMD standards.

The ADF School of Special Operations (ADFSSO) provides resources and advice, including tailored physical and mental optimisation programs, and training to revise basic navigation theory.

Take action. Submit your EOI form, attend SFAP and give it your best effort to demonstrate your potential and motivation to serve in SOCOMD.

Search “Join Special Operations” on the DPN for further information or email your questions to ADFSSO via JoinSpecialOperations@defence.gov.au

We look forward to receiving your EOI.
