Now is the time to prepare for the next Special Forces Selection

Special Operations Command (SOCOMD) is always recruiting the next generation of Special Forces (SF) Soldiers and Officers to operate in a fast-paced, highly technical battlespace and conduct complex and sensitive missions to protect our nation.

As a high performing RAR member, you should consider taking on the challenge. If successful, you will unlock unparalleled opportunities in high-risk, high-reward operational environments unmatched elsewhere in the ADF.

In return for your skills and experience, you’ll reap the benefits associated with SOCOMD’s investment in its people. Beyond additional allowances and geographic stability, the Command fosters continuous development through world-class specialised training, access to modern equipment, and robust professional development and education. You will be surrounded by highly motivated, like-minded individuals united by a relentless pursuit of excellence and professional mastery. You will forge lifelong bonds within a high-performing team and the wider Special Forces community.

Preparation is Key

Joining and serving in SOCOMD requires hard work and dedication to ensure you are physically and mentally prepared to execute missions in complex environments with evolving threats.

The Special Forces Selection Course (SFSC) is held in May and the Special Forces Integrator Selection Course (SFI-SC) is in September. Spots are limited and highly competitive so start your preparation now to maximise your chance of success. Your preparation over the coming months will be reflected in your performance during Selection and beyond.

The ADF School of Special Operations (ADFSSO) provides a range of resources to aid your physical and mental preparation, setting the foundation for you to have the greatest chance of being considered for a role in SOCOMD.

Physical Training

Now is the time to commence your physical training program. ADFSSO has a specifically designed program to enhance your preparation for the Special Forces Assessment Program (SFAP) and Selection. The team at ADFSSO is always available for ADF members to discuss their individual needs and obtain advice about preparation.

You can access the program and contact the team at Human Performance Wing via the TeamBuildr App after submitting your Expression of Interest (EOI) to attend the SFAP.

Mental Optimisation

Selection assesses your character by evaluating your ability to operate under fatigue, adaptability to uncertainty, communication style, planning, and problem-solving. It’s important to develop strategies to regulate your response and overcome doubt or intrusive thoughts which can impact on your performance.

The Mental Optimisation Course is available via ADELE. It aligns with the physical training program, comprising weekly modules so you can practice implementing the techniques in the lead up to Selection.

Apply Now

Take action, prepare now and begin your journey by submitting an EOI form. Search “Join Special Operations” on the DPN for further information or email your questions to ADFSSO via JoinSpecialOperations@defence.gov.au

We look forward to receiving your EOI.
