From Multi-Domain to Multi-Mission: The Next Evolution of Uncrewed Capability

The modern battlespace is changing rapidly. Success is no longer determined solely by the performance of individual platforms, but by how effectively information can be collected, shared and acted upon. As Defence continues to embrace multi-domain operations, the ability to connect across air, land, sea and counter-UAS environments is becoming a decisive capability.

Interoperability is becoming increasingly important for Army. Information from multiple platforms can be integrated, shared and acted upon quicker, allowing commanders to make better-informed decisions while reducing the cognitive workload placed on operators. Quantum Systems’ expanding portfolio reflects this philosophy. Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, targeting, communications and other mission requirements can increasingly be coordinated across multiple platforms, allowing new technologies to be introduced without creating additional operational silos.

One of the most significant additions to this ecosystem is PULSE P19, Quantum Systems’ new optionally piloted aircraft. Unveiled at ILA Berlin in June 2026, PULSE P19 significantly expands the scale and endurance of the company’s aviation capability. Designed to operate as part of the wider MOSAIC ecosystem, it extends the reach of the network by connecting sensors, platforms and mission data across a much larger operational area.

Expected to undertake its first flight in 2027, PULSE P19 demonstrates that the future of autonomous capability is not simply about building larger aircraft or carrying more payload. Its real value lies in strengthening the network that connects every platform involved in a mission, allowing information to move seamlessly to those who need it most.

For soldiers on the ground, that evolution has a practical purpose. The objective is not simply to deploy more uncrewed systems into the battlespace, but to ensure those systems deliver timely, relevant information that improves decision-making at every level. Better connected systems mean faster access to intelligence, improved situational awareness and greater operational flexibility without increasing the burden on operators.

As Defence continues to adapt to increasingly complex operating environments, software-defined interoperability will become just as important as the platforms themselves. Investment in open, scalable mission software ensures new capabilities can be integrated more quickly, existing assets can deliver greater operational value and commanders can make decisions with greater confidence.

The transition from single-platform operations to truly integrated, multi-domain capability is already underway. The next evolution, connecting those capabilities across multiple missions through a common operational architecture, will fundamentally change how uncrewed systems support future operational environments.
